My daughters are deep thinkers. They have asked me how a Christian can believe in Big Bang cosmology and the Bible at the same time? I thought for a long time about how I reason. I was inspired to put my thoughts in writing.

The same thing, event, picture etc can provoke different thoughts in people. Even multiple thoughts in the same person. Can many perspectives be true or valid at the same time?

Einstein’s theory of relativity teaches us that we are always traveling through time and space. The hypotenuse of our speed through time and our speed through space is always the speed of light. When we are stationary in space, we move through time at a maximum speed of one light-second per second.

In our modern world, we have certain ideals about how we think about the world. We should be rational. We should rely on what is scientifically credible. We should distinguish between what is fact and what is myth.

High intelligence does not protect us from taking on stupid, or even evil, beliefs.

Free will appears mysterious when we consider it as a physical phenomenon. But we need it to understand actions, morals, justice etcetera. I think the resolution about the question about existence of free will lies in the question about what it means for something to exist.

Atom is an old Greek word. It refers to what can not be divided into smaller parts.

The smallest components of our reality are not molecules and atoms, nor subatomic particles like quarks and leptons.

What I want to say touches on David Chalmers ”hard problem” ”how does material living things have consciousness?” and the difficulty of understanding another mind. We cannot fathom what it is like to be a bat – because we don’t have sonar faculties (Thomas Nagel).

Here are some futuristic reflections I made.
